Some homes are worth saving, while others deserve a complete reinvention. The Waldon residence was both. Originally built in 1987 on a sprawling 2.3-acre lot, this home had a fantastic location but was long overdue for a new vision. The homeowners approached us, in partnership with Smith Slovik Residential Design, to explore the possibilities of a luxury home renovation in Charlotte, NC.

What began as a simple renovation quickly evolved into a top-to-bottom transformation.

The Before: A Full-Scale Deconstruction

When we say “complete renovation,” we truly mean it. Every inch of the existing home was stripped to its core. We removed drywall, flooring, cabinetry, roofing, and sheathing—everything down to the studs and subfloor. We eliminated three masonry fireplaces, the original two-car garage, and a back deck. The entire brick exterior came down. Every window was replaced with larger Sierra Pacific aluminum-clad models to maximize light and modernize the façade.

Inside, we removed the interior stairs and all mechanical systems. Structural concerns were addressed with the help of an engineer. They guided us through reinforcing sagging floors and correcting over-spanned framing. We added new piers, rebuilt structural members, and essentially started from the ground up.

At one point, we joked that only about ten lineal feet of original framing remained—the rest was brand-new.

The After: A Modern Masterpiece

What stands today bears little resemblance to the 1987 original. This reimagined home now offers over 5,000 additional square feet of living space—a true luxury home renovation in Charlotte, NC, that reflects the best of modern design and craftsmanship.

Every detail reflects quality and comfort. We installed wide-plank white oak flooring and completed a full plumbing and electrical upgrade with Control4 smart home integration. The chef’s kitchen features Sub-Zero and Wolf appliances, along with a large scullery.

The open-concept design connects seamlessly to an expansive covered patio. This area features an Isokern fireplace, integrated heaters, and a bluestone floor. Beyond that, an even larger outdoor entertaining patio overlooks the pool and lake—a setting designed for gathering, relaxing, and enjoying the property’s stunning views.

We extended the kitchen by 30 inches to create a more generous footprint. This change carried through to the bedroom above, expanding it as well. Every space now feels intentional, functional, and timeless.
